George Alfred Kiersch
George Alfred Kiersch (1918-2004) P.G., P.E., was the leading North American Engineering Geologist of his era. A native Californian (Modesto) and 1938 graduate Geological Engineer (Colorado School of Mines, 1938; Ph.D, School of Mines, University of Arizona, 1950), George was the ultimate practitioner; field geologist, professor, consultant, WW-II Army Engineer combat officer (SW Pacific), prolific technical author, and historian of our profession. This autobiography was scribed in George’s declining days, ill, but bright of mind and determination, dictated to his long-time, dedicated administrative associate, Jane Hoffman, also then of Tucson, Arizona. But for Jane we would not have the ability to put forth these last and summary words of George’s.
